H&M Foundation is the initiator and main funder of Oporajita. Through the initiative, the H&M Foundation is working towards its greater vision of enabling a textile industry that is socially inclusive and planet positive.
H&M Foundation is privately funded by the Stefan Persson family, founders and main owners of the H&M Group. It uses philanthropic resources to find, fund and facilitate disruptive innovations, initiatives and research that enable a socially inclusive and planet positive textile industry. To accelerate the transformation, the H&M Foundation takes on a holistic and open approach - bringing diverse partners together to co-create, and to share learnings and solutions. The H&M Foundation can also provide emergency relief.
As the demand for recycled raw materials increases, and the use of automation and digitalisation is making its way into the textile industry, there's an urgent opportunity to create social inclusion along emerging circular value chains and new technology. H&M Foundation works to help redesign social systems, shift power relations and ensure equity for the long-term in the communities where vast amounts of the world's clothes are made. Based on the active contributions of members of these communities, we are using the Collective Impact (CI) method to bring together local experts, international and grassroots organizations and government agencies to work collectively and transparently towards common goals. We believe that donors like us must dare to invest long-term in complex projects and take on a more holistic mindset, breaking away from silos thinking.
