As all partners in Oporajita, Sweden plays several roles. The Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka is funding the development of hard, multi-skills for garment workers to prepare them for tomorrow’s employment requirements within more automated factories. In addition, we strive to contribute with our experience and knowledge to make Oporajita as efficient and effective as possible, to promote trust among the partners and continuous communication and collaboration, as well as to guide Oporajita’s strategy and for joint advocacy. This is done through the Steering Committee, as well as through contacts with implementation partners, funders and the Backbone Organization.
Sida is Sweden’s government agency for development cooperation and today has long-term development cooperation with some 35 countries around the world and supports regional projects on most continents, as well as organisations that work globally. Sida’s work is focused on thematic areas that are of particular importance for combating poverty around the world, such as democracy, gender equality, climate and peaceful societies. Sida represented by the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka has provided development assistance to Bangladesh since the country became independent in 1971. Sweden's development cooperation in Bangladesh aims to contribute to improving the conditions for people to raise themselves out of poverty by strengthening democracy, respect for human rights and gender equality, combating climate change, contributing to climate adaptation and environmental sustainability, inclusive economic development as well as improved health and SRHR.
Today’s development challenges are complex and often require responses involving a multitude of actors with different competence undertaking simultaneous action in several areas. The Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka is therefore convinced that our efforts will be more effective through the collaboration within Oporajita. We believe in the strength of this collective impact approach through which Oporajita partners share a common goal which departs from a thorough scenario planning, contribute to, and analyse, a development challenge from different perspectives, share knowledge and lessons learnt, use synergies from the implementation of each individual intervention, as well as join hands in advocacy to contribute to a larger impact.
