Swisscontact (PROGRESS) is working to furnish necessary technical aid to the factory management, workers and staff in tiers 2 and 3 factories in order to establish an efficient industry-based training system which will provide training on both technical and soft skills. This system will generate competent trainers, assessors and supervisors whose primary task will be to provide training to RMG workers (of whom 60% are women) for upskilling and reskilling to cope with the emerging needs of the industry, i.e., automation and introduction of new technologies and techniques. These activities align with Oporajita's goal of providing technical skills training to low-skilled and unskilled garment workers, particularly female workers in readymade garments (RMG) factories, which will elevate their productivity and enable them to adapt to technological changes such as automation and green technologies.
Founded in 1959 as a non-profit foundation by exponents from the Swiss private sector, Swisscontact is dedicated to private-sector-led, sustainable economic development in emerging and developing countries. The organization emphasizes individual skill development and enhancing the competitiveness of companies as key priorities in its development work.
The PROGRESS project aims to develop Bangladesh's RMG sector inclusively, sustainably, and competitively. It focuses on providing well-paying and secure employment for mostly women workers, improving working conditions, respecting worker rights, and reducing the environmental impact. Swisscontact collaborates with the Collective Impact Initiative to support RMG factories and implement a sustainable skill training system, aligning with Oporajitas's objectives.
